We planted the rest of the garden this week: delicata squash, green beans, dwarf sunflowers, mini peppers, cherry tomatoes. Katy did it all as I’m still recovering from an appendectomy. She started with the green beans, zucchini, and the delicata squash on the 19th:

From there, we went up to Swanson’s to get the rest. Before we planted the sun flowers yesterday, Katy managed to dig up a giant root bed that had been plaguing that area for weeks now. Every time I’d weed, loads of new weeds would seemingly pop up a few days later. Right when we finished planting, the sun magically hit the sunflowers who quickly turned to face it. She then successfully planted the cherry tomatoes and mini pepper plant. We laughed later about only getting small things (dwarf sunflowers, mini peppers, cherry tomatoes).

Today, we went and set some beer traps to address our slug problem. It was a bit awkward to buy a six pack of Modelo at 9am but we do what we must for the garden.

At this point, it feels like all the hard work is over–the digging up, the planting, the bunny fence, the slug fighting! Now, we water, we weed, and we cheer on our little garden in its first year.
